Mary Pickford

Origin

The Mary Pickford Cocktail was named after the famous silent film actress Mary Pickford, one of Hollywood’s most beloved stars of the 1920’s. The drink was created in Havana, Cuba as were other prohibition era drinks due to Americans fleeing prohibition for countries with flowing alcohol. With rum being readily available in Cuba the bartenders catered to the tourists.

The blend of white rum with tropical pineapple juice and sweet grenadine and cherries masked the once strong bite of alcohol of the times. This was and still is a favourite drink amongst those new to cocktails and was a speakeasy darling.
